A city agency in Boynton Beach approved a downtown redevelopment plan with building heights up to 10 stories, despite pleas for a four-story limit.
The Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) last week approved a planned makeover of the city’s downtown area.
The redevelopment plan calls for the establishment six separate downtown districts with their own streetscapes and development rules.
The CRA also approved a maximum 10-story height for downtown buildings, despite a petition drive for a four-story maximum.
At the CRA’s August 9 meeting, Boynton Beach resident Debbie Liddle, 62, said she got more than 700 signatures from people opposed to high-rise buildings in the city’s downtown area.
CRA board member Justin Katz said the 10-story limit will pump vital tax money into the city government, and he called a four-story limit fiscally unaffordable. [Sun-Sentinel] – Mike Seemuth
